‘Faster Smarter Better Challenge - 2012 at B.C.M Arya

In an endeavour to enrich young minds and enable them to prove their mettle in the battle of confidence, B.C.M Arya Model Sr. Sec. School, Shastri Nagar, Ludhiana, under the aegis of Derek O’ Brien Associates’ organized an Inter School ‘Faster Smarter Better Challenge- 2012’ in Swami Dayanand Hall today. The event covered 32 leading schools across the city which picked the brightest minds from classes VI toIX.
Ms. Fatima from Derek O’ Brien & Associates was the official host of the programme who tested the confidence skills of the contestants as they took on challenges in mathematical, verbal, analytical and observatory abilities.
Over a hundred questions covered in six mandatory rounds were put forth to the contestants. The questions focused their Faster Smarter & Better abilities in form of visual round, audio round, General Knowledge, Zig –saw puzzles etc.
The neck to neck battle saw B.C.M Arya Model Sr. Sec. School, Shastri Nagar, Ludhiana bagging the winners trophy. Members of the audience also got a chance to receive prizes when they answered questions correctly.
This event was really a blend of entertainment and education and enabled children with a proven talent and confidence to emerge as enriched, well informed and global Citizens.

About 2000 students of B.C.M Arya Model Sr. Sec. School , Shastri Nagar, Ludhiana took part in Global Vote 2012 for the World’s Children Prize for the Rights of the Child (WCPRC)-2012.
WCPRC is based on the UN Child Convention and strengthens the voices of children, connecting them together across countries and continents, and helps them to demand respect for the rights of the child. It holds an annual vote for global candidates who have made magnificent contributions to protecting and promoting the rights of the children.
It is a unique voting event for 27 million children in 57,530 schools and 102 countries are behind the WCPRC. Anna Mollel from Tanzania, Sakeena Yacoobi from Afghanistan & Ann Skelton from South Africa are the three final candidates who have been nominated for the World’s Children Prize 2012.
The vote day was observed with high spirits. It educated and empowered children on the rights of the children and to contribute to their humanitarian growth as global citizens with regard to human rights, democracy, the environment, global friendship and peace - giving them hope for future and the chance to demand respect for the rights. It provided an opportunity to young minds to get sensitized about deprived children.
“I got this strange feeling, almost like a dream, when I voted in the global vote today. I saw myself one day becoming a candidate who children can vote for. That’s a dream I plan to make a reality” says Sukriti Sehgal of X-C one of the students while casting her vote.
Millions of children will participate in this year’s Global vote to decide who will be the child Right Hero. The winner will receive a prize money of about 1,00,000 US Dollars at a glittering Award Giving Ceremony at Gripsholm Castle in Mariefred, Sweden.

Celebration of ‘Earth Day’ at BCM Arya
Ranked thrice amongst the top ten Green Schools of India as audited for Centre of Science & Environment, Delhi. B.C.M Arya Model Sr. Sec. School, Shastri Nagar, Ludhiana today observed ‘Earth Day’.
During the observation of Earth Day nearly 6000 students and teachers collectively took a pledge to protect Mother Earth.
The flag-off ceremony of Ocean Savers of India (OSI) Project 2012 took place on the occasion which aimed to create awareness to love and respect the marine ocean world. The flag off ceremony was organized in the presence of worthy management members and the Chief Guest Mr. Karn Ragade, Vice President of OSI.
OSI team was shown documentaries on marine world along with the team of 40 members. This Project was undertaken by School Environment Manager, Mrs. Vipra Kale. Capt. V.K. Sayal, School Manager encouraged the OSI and GSP team to lead ahead to preserve the water of the Rivers.
On this auspicious occasion the Senior Supervisor Mrs. Rachna Malhotra highlighted the importance of the Day and inspired the students to develop positive feelings towards nature. She appreciated the work done by the Green School Programme members and encouraged them to go ahead to serve Mother Nature wherein BCM Aryans joined hands to revive the blue green planet and its original glory.

B.C.M Arya organizes workshop on Curriculum Integration

To make the teachers familiar with use of latest technology of ‘e-Blocks’ a multi sensory language learning tool and to incorporate it into existing school curriculum, a training session for teachers was organized at B.C.M Arya Model Sr. Sec. School, Shastri Nagar, Ludhiana. Nearly 150 teachers from various schools participated. The programme was formally inaugurated by lamp lighting ceremony followed by welcome address. Participants shared innovative approaches, resources & learnt from experiences.
Mrs. Shomalika, Manager, Virtual Edutechnica Pvt. Ltd. was the Resource Person. She laid stress on the integration of text books and curriculum into e-blocks in English and Mathematics for helping children to read confidently and enthusiastically with less efforts and immediate skills.
This event brought together educational faculty to support learning process and ease the creation of instruction material.
It was a highly interactive and informational lesson wherein the participants put forth their ideas and problems in conductive atmosphere.

B.C.M Arya holds “Graduation Ceremony"

To give certificates to the Primary students who joined B.C.M Arya Model Sr. Sec. School as buds and have now blossomed into flowers spreading their fragrances all around, a "Graduation Ceremony" was organised in School Auditorium on 23rd March 2012. Mrs. Paramjit Kaur, the School Principal inaugurated the programme with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp. Mrs. P.K. Oberoi (Headmistress) accorded warm welcome to the parents of students who were passing out from Primary to Middle Section with new hopes and aspirations. The children seemed to be excited to enter an altogether different stage of their lives which will turn them towards more realistic situations and provide new opportunities in terms of cognitive development. Students wearing caps and capes were full of excitement which was writ large on their faces. As a part of blessings, flowers were showered upon them and they seemed to enjoy every moment of the day. The children were in jubilant mood and were ready to step on the ladder of progress into the middle School.
Mrs. Paramjit Kaur appreciated the achievements of students. It was a moment of mixed emotions as the students walked down the aisle to the tune of a touching Farewell song. On one hand, the teachers were proud of their perfect products and on the other hand they were sad to part with them after a close association of years.

B.C.M Arya holds Kindergarten Graduation Ceremony

To cherish the precious moments of success and to herald the achievement of tiny tots the Kindergarten Graduation Ceremony was organized at B.C.M Arya Model Sr. Sec. School, Shastri Nagar, Ludhiana amidst much fun and excitement. Mrs. Paramjit Kaur, Principal of the school graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Mrs. P.K. Oberoi (Head Mistress) accorded warm welcome to the parents of the students who passed out from the Kindergarten to Primary section with new hopes and aspirations. It was a moment of celebration and pride for tiny tots attired in adorable robes and tassels who walked down the aisle to receive their Graduation Certificates amidst loud applause. The parents were proud to see their little graduates exuding with confidence.
They thanked the teachers for ably nurturing the talents of their kids. While delivering her speech, the principal stressed on the need to give good education to children from their early age. Every child is a unit of the society, and today’s children would decide the fate of tomorrow’s society. Everybody wished them luck as they stepped into the formal education.

Great pomp and show marked the inaugration of Annual Athletic Meet of Kindergarten & at B.C.M Arya Model Sr. Sec. School, Shastri Nagar, Ludhiana wherein young BCM Aryans participated with full Zest and Enthusiasm. After the warm welcome to the chief Guest Wing Commander Preeti Lalwale, Air Force Station, Halwara. The programme started with March Past by the students followed by the release of balloons in the air and Oath ceremony.
To give a colourful start to the occasion cultural items were also presented by the students which kept the spectators spell bound.

Knowing the world through newspapers and Magazines

A Collage Making Activity based on the theme “Knowing the World through newspaper and magazines” was held in B.C.M Arya Model Sr. Sec. School, Shastri Nagar, Ludhiana. The students of Class VI to VIII participated in it with great enthusiasm. The students displayed their creativity talents to the best by making very beautiful and informative collages and also made power point presentations on the same theme. They displayed latest world happenings, calamities, history, culture, language and religion of many countries of the world. They even contacted the students of different countries like Australia, London, Japan, Nepal, China, Bangladesh via e-mails & internet to get more authentic information about their respective countries.
This activity really boosted up students’ confidence and developed their aesthetic sense. Above all, it was a great effort on the part of students and they got sensitized about the universal brotherhood and World peace.

Farewell Party at BCM Arya

To bid adieu to the students of Class 12, Class XI students organised a glittering farewell party in the bedecked school lawn of B.C.M Arya Model Sr. Sec. School, Shastri Nagar, Ludhiana. The programme got off to a colourful start with a welcome speech and lovely dance by the students. The glamorous event was marked with much enthusiasm and gusto. It was a sad day definitely for those who are leaving and at the same time full of hope because now they are going to achieve their mission in future.
To lend charm to the show the students of Class XI presented a bouquet of items viz. dances, songs, skits and mesmerized the audience. It was a delight to watch beautiful gals and handsome boys attired in lovely outfits sashaying down the ramp, vying for Mr. BCM and Miss BCM titles. A lot of interesting fun games also made the show more entertaining. On the ocassion Principal Mrs. Paramjit Kaur wished the success to the outgoing students in all their future endeavours.

B.C.M. Arya holds ‘Self Empowerment workshop’ for Punjabi Teachers

B.C.M Arya Model Sr. Sec. School, Shastri Nagar, Ludhiana conducted a woprkshop wherein 80 teachers from C.B.S.E. schools participated. The one-day Teachers’ Self Empowerment Workshop on ‘Strategies for Quality Improvement in Punjabi Education at the secondary level’ was held with an aim to give teachers a platform to share their own initiatives undertaken for improving Punjabi and expose them to a range of approaches, good practices and concrete strategies. Teachers themselves were the resource persons who attended and shared their expertise.
After a round of introductions, the first session opened with Introductory remarks by Mrs. Harjit who stressed upon the urgent need for renewed efforts to bring about visible learning improvement in all subject areas. She spoke of the importance of focusing on Punjabi and designing specific integrated plans for improving Punjabi learning.
Speaking on the occasion Mrs. Paramjit Kaur, the school Principal said,’ Punjabi is especially important because it enables us to nurture citizens who are active and reflective members of society.’ She emphasized the need to bring a shift in our classrooms from the child’s perspective and link children’s learning to everyday world
The workshop started by involving participants in a participatory discussion on what are some of the feasible changes that can be brought about in Punjabi teaching, and what are some of the challenges in this regard. Teachers went on to discuss practical steps to facilitate children to understand social processes in their immediate surroundings, through explorations, discussions, observing their communities’ practices and traditions, visiting local markets, places of historical significance etc.

Peer group leaders were also selected during the workshop who gave demo lessons to the participants.
On the whole this workshop motivated the teachers to help children explore and discuss about their own world. Various strategies were devised upon such as participatory methods of open-ended discussions, group-work and debates for effective social Punjabi learning:

B.C.M Arya recognizes State and National Sports Excelsiors

Sports Achievement Awards – a momentous event was organized at B.C.M
Arya Model Sr. Sec. School, Shastri Nagar, Ludhiana which recognized
the sporting excellence and achievements of more than 80 players
competing at State and National level with trophies, medals and
certificates of appreciation. Ms. Gurpreet Bhurewal, ACP (West) graced
the occasion as Chief Guest and gave away the prizes. The parents of
the students were also happy to see their children getting prize at
the function.
“Today’s celebration recognizes, celebrates and supports the ability
of these young players to play great games both on and off the field.
The young players are here because of their outstanding achievements
which will pave their way through life, long after their school days
have passed”, Mrs. Paramjit Kaur , the School Principal said.
Sh. Rajinder Sayal, Sr. Vice President, School Managing Committee,
also congratulated the winners.
On the whole, this recognition not only encouraged students’ interest
in sports but also laid the foundation of a healthy and sound society.

SPIC MACAY's CLASSICAL MUSICAL PROGRAMME
Dhrupad Singers Ms. Aliya Rasheed from Lahore, Pakistan and Ms. Amita Sinha Mahapatra from West Bengal performed at B.C.M Arya Model Sr. Sec. School, Shastri Nagar, Ludhiana under the aegis of Spic Macay.
Aliya Rasheed is a young visually impaired Dhrupad Singer from Lahore, Pakistan. She feels honoured to be the first female Pakistani Dhrupad artist to undergo formal training in India. Her captivating voice and innocent charm kept the audience spell bound for more than an hour. Her divine voice coupled with her vibrant and devotional style soothed the senses of the listeners and got a wide applause from audience.
Amita, who comes from a music loving family of Bishnupur, West Bengal also left everybody mesmerized with her soulful renditions. The singers performed in unison to the beat of Pakhvaj played by the accompanist Sh. Ramesh Joshi.
The programme was organized with a view to provide a platform to school students for experiencing the performances by great maestros and getting an insight into the culture and music of India, its values and ethos. Nearly 2000 students attended the musical concert and got the rare opportunity to spend some time with the two eminent Dhrupad singers and learnt a lot while interacting with them.
A lot of dignitaries from SPIC MACAY as well as from the school Management Committee were also present on the occasion.
The programme was really a humble effort to celebrate our composite heritage and left a lot of impact on the young impressionable minds and got wide appreciation.
